The Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec announced today the appointment of Rashad Kaldany to the position of Executive Vice-President, Emerging Markets. Mr. Kaldany will continue to implement the Caisse’s investment strategy in these countries. To that end, he will establish an in-house centre of expertise to advise and support the investment teams. He will also build local partnerships with the goals of providing the Caisse with critically important local knowledge and helping Québec companies to capitalize on opportunities in these markets.

Most recently, Mr. Kaldany was Chief Operating Officer at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the financial arm of the World Bank Group. In that role, he oversaw all IFC’s investment and advisory activities. In 2012 alone, IFC invested US$25 billion in emerging markets in the private sector. In almost 20 years with the organization, he managed teams that invested in Asia, North Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe, in the infrastructure, energy, mining and chemicals sectors.

"Mr. Kaldany will ensure the Caisse is strategically positioned in the emerging markets to capitalize on their growing importance in the world,” said Michael Sabia, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Caisse. “With his outstanding track record and extensive knowledge of emerging markets, we will greatly enhance our ability to act on the best business opportunities in these countries, making the Caisse an even stronger institution."

"I’m very pleased to continue my career with a world-class organization like the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec," said Mr. Kaldany. "As Executive Vice-President, Emerging Markets, I will make my geographic and industry expertise available to my colleagues to ensure the best investment decisions are made in emerging markets."

Mr. Kaldany has had the opportunity to work in many countries and multicultural environments. He speaks English, French and Arabic. He holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Columbia University, as well as two master’s degrees from Stanford University: one in business administration from the Graduate School of Business and the other in administration from the Food Research Institute.
