Michel Lalande

Executive Vice-President, Legal Affairs, Compliance and Secretariat

As Executive Vice-President, Legal Affairs, Compliance and Secretariat, Michel Lalande’s mandate is to manage all legal and regulatory activities at CDPQ. He plays a leading role in supporting the organization and its subsidiaries on legal, regulatory, ethical and compliance questions regarding investments and operations in Québec and around the world. In addition, he is responsible for the Secretariat, which monitors the application of governance best practices and provides its expertise in that area to CDPQ’s Board and various committees. He is a member of CDPQ’s Executive Committee in addition to serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ivanhoé Cambridge, CDPQ’s world-class real estate subsidiary.

Mr. Lalande has over 30 years of experience as a lawyer and in management, and is recognized as a leader and team builder. Before joining CDPQ in January 2021, he spent 20 years in legal positions at BCE and Bell Canada, including as the company’s Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary. Previously, as Legal Affairs Director at Teleglobe, he worked on several international transactions, partnerships and financing. He began his career at Fasken Martineau, where he worked for seven years in the corporate mergers and acquisitions and securities practice.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws from Université de Montréal and is a member of the Barreau du Québec.

CONNECTIONS

Mr. Lalande was Co-President of the 2023 campaign of the Fondation des jeunes de la DPJ. He has also been active in several community organizations, including Centraide of Greater Montreal and Lawyers Without Borders.

During his career, he has received numerous distinctions, including being named one of Lexpert’s Top 40 Under 40. In addition, he was named Québec General Counsel of the year and was a finalist for the Canadian General Counsel Awards many times, and under his leadership, BCE won several governance awards in Canada and the United States.
